I saw a transvestite acting as a Spanish translator for her friend in traffic court today.  She wasn’t a very good one though as she was sporting both a scrunchy and bejeweled velveteen pants.  She also wore only base, making her face a Hispanic ghost.  The policemen snickered at first but stopped when she got amigo a 90 day extension.

Veggie Time
Hey Charleston! I’m writing a Veggie Eats guide for this city.  Have you a favorite veggie friendly eatery or secret munching spot won’t you let me know? While this is focused on vegan and vegetarian friendly establishments; information, markets, classes and knowledge of any sort is very welcome. Thank you, thank you!

Better than Big Wheel
Just saw my homeless street neighbor zoom past in his electric wheelchair contraption with a small kid holding on like a garbage man would a truck.  Flags and flair were flapping in the little one’s face but he didn’t care.

Tree Desk Continued
I’ve just spoken with a lovely lady at a tree company.  She’s offered to give me access to some sort of tree lab they have where logs and stumps are available for my taking.  Katrina (that’s her name) also said she would call around Summerville to see if any of their associates wanted to give me tree trunks from there as well. I have no idea why she is so nice BUT I am excited. ...

Lastly, my computer is a hungry little matrix.  She woke up at 3 am bleeping for more power food.  I’ve never heard of a laptop doing this mid sleep.

In other news, Charlotte Hughes-Martin has gained recognition lately for leaving beautifully engraved milk bottles on random British doorsteps.  Most are adorned with various cows of sorts but recently a small teddy bear has been added to the collection.  Hughes-Martin says she likes playing with what makes materials precious or refuse, the idea of being pleased at finding art and having fun. ...

I wish that instead of these black and white letters we wrote with pictures and colors.  It is most likely unrealistic and probably even silly (although hieroglyphics seemed to work) but I know that I tire of looking at pages upon pages of script even if the mental pictures generated by those letters are beautiful.  I can’t help but think that while these those too would grow stale with...

Being sick, someone suggested eating cereal inside of soup. Instead, I put orange juice inside of cereal. It was gross. I’ll try again tomorrow.

Bobbin
Bobbin is a darling greeting card and stationary line founded by my friend Jean Johnson.  Jean individually sews each card, using bits of salvaged fabric, felt and trim to make charming little creations. The line was named after her great-grandmother Bobbin, but also pays tribute to her meticulous, hand crafted production process. Jean hails from SC with a BA in Costume Design from The College...

The below jogged a memory that I found a spindly starfish at the beach one time as a kid.  It was the kind with long spider snake arms that don’t match the stout baby mountainous textured ones common here.  I asked my teacher about it at school and she said it must have traveled from somewhere a long ways away.  I’ve since found out that this isn’t true; they are native but live...

Science News reports that the Hubble may have identified galaxies existing only a few million years outside of the Big Bang era.  If true, these galaxies could be the most distant, and therefore furthest away in time from ones currently known. I like that NASA accidentally made this telescope into a makeshift time machine like all those 1980’s movies where kids stumble upon ways to make...

It’s also nice that Tumblr uses the infinity sign to represent permalinks but this is a little presumptuous. I’m fairly sure my quiche image won’t be there foreeeeeevvvvver.

A baby came to visit us this morning at the office.  She was all compact and bundly with sparkly eyes and cuteness.  Key chains were a miracle and also food. Her laugh struck me as hilarious, a picture of a mid way evolution point between baby gurgle squeal delight sound and real child giggle.  It wasn’t finished evolving yet. I heard it’s high soundingness and thought how peculiar...

– I’m reading Julia Blackburn’s The Three of Us which I believe will be heartbreaking but possesses prose that is really really perfect.  Like from the first paragraph you can touch what’s in her mind.  Anyhow, she also uses the word “higgledy piggledy” (as in “I...
